Parliament wants to give the armaments company Nitrochemie in Wimmis in the Bernese Oberland more capacity in order to increase its defense capabilities. The company is a joint venture between the German Rheinmetall Group and Ruag MRO.

On Thursday, the Council of States adopted a motion from its Security Policy Committee (SIK-S) without opposition. The motion calls on the Federal Council to ensure that Ruag MRO has the necessary capital for the capacity expansion of Nitrochemie by next May.
With the Council of States' yes vote, this is now the case, as the National Council already approved an identical motion from its own Security Policy Committee on Wednesday. With this double approval, the motions are deemed to have been passed.
