"We compensate publishers according to the model that is suitable for the age of artificial intelligence," explained the San Francisco-based startup in a blog post on Monday.
Accordingly, a soon-to-be-available subscription service called Comet Plus is to be used for this purpose: Subscribers are to be given access to the content of affiliated publishers for five dollars a month - with whom the profits are then shared. According to the company, the program has a budget of 42.5 million dollars to date.
Perplexity combines an AI assistant and a search engine to find information on the Internet: Users enter questions and receive answers available in online sources. Several lawsuits have already been filed against the company by media groups such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
Several media companies have already entered into agreements with AI companies for the use of their content.
