Unfortunate timing: petrol and diesel prices reach annoying peaks for motorists at the busy start of Easter of all times.

Fuel prices in Switzerland rose significantly at the start of the Easter holidays. Diesel became particularly expensive, with the average price rising by 3.7 percent to CHF 2.24 per liter within two days, according to the TCS.
This puts diesel above the CHF 2.20 mark, reaching a level last seen at the end of 2022, according to data published by the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) on Thursday.
Petrol prices also continued to rise: The average price for unleaded 95 climbed to 1.89 francs per liter, up from 1.84 francs issued on Wednesday.

A clear upward trend had already emerged in recent weeks in view of the Iran war and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for oil tankers. The price of diesel has risen by 22 percent since the start of the Israeli and US attacks on Iran and their counter-attacks on the surrounding Gulf states. The tense situation on the international energy markets also has a delayed effect on prices at the pumps.
The latest price jump also coincides with the start of the Easter travel wave, a phase with traditionally high traffic volumes and correspondingly high demand.
The TCS publishes estimates of current petrol and diesel prices in Switzerland at irregular intervals. These are made by TCS experts on the basis of information from various sources and random samples. The actual prices may vary depending on the region and filling station. The mobility organization explains the stronger price increase for diesel with a higher demand in the industry.
