The lifeguard and surfer who was bitten and killed by a shark off the coast of Hawaii was actor Tamayo Perry, who appeared in the surf movie "Blue Crush" with Kate Bosworth.

The surfer, lifeguard and actor Tamayo Perry was attacked and killed by a shark off the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Perry died yesterday, Sunday, while surfing, the deputy director of the Honolulu Department of Marine Safety, Kurt Lager, said at a press conference.

Perry was also an actor. He appeared in the surf movie "Blue Crush" with Kate Bosworth. In the fourth part of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, he played a small role according to his own and several media outlets.

A spokeswoman for Honolulu Emergency Services, Shayne Enright, said the 49-year-old was attacked and fatally injured by the shark off the north shore of Oahu on Sunday afternoon. Rescue workers brought him to Malaekahana Beach on a jet ski and could only determine his death there.

According to local media, shark warnings were issued in the area after the attack. The mayor of Honolulu, Rick Blangiardi, described the surfer's death as a "tragic loss".
