The plane was diverted to Denver on a domestic flight between Colorado Springs and Dallas on Thursday (local time) after the crew noticed vibrations in an engine, as quoted by several US media outlets in a statement from the FAA. After landing there - on the way to the gate - an engine caught fire.

Emergency slides also used

All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft and twelve people were taken to hospital for minor injuries, the airport announced on Platform X. According to the FAA, emergency slides were also used. Photos and videos shared on social media showed flames and smoke - as well as numerous passengers standing on one wing of the aircraft.

There have been several aviation accidents in the USA or involving US aircraft in recent weeks. In the capital Washington, for example, a military helicopter and an American Airlines passenger plane collided on January 29, resulting in 67 deaths. Two days later, seven people were killed after a Learjet crashed in Philadelphia. Ten people were killed in a plane crash in Alaska on February 6. On February 17, a plane operated by US airline Delta Air Lines overturned on landing in the Canadian city of Toronto - all 80 occupants survived. There were also several cases in which planes had to turn back due to smoke in the cabin.
