A plane with more than 170 people on board has overshot the runway of an airport in Norway and come to a halt just a few meters from the sea. After the Norwegian airline plane landed in Molde in western Norway, there was a strong gust of wind and the runway was slippery, a company spokeswoman told the NTB news agency.

The state accident commission later said that the plane had come into a snow shower while landing at low altitude on Thursday evening. After landing, the pilot had also noticed that it was slippery and difficult to brake. The plane only came to a halt around ten meters behind the end of the asphalt edge of the runway near the water.

There were 165 passengers and six crew members on board the plane coming from Oslo. According to the police, everyone was evacuated. No one was injured, but many were badly affected by the unusual incident. The municipality of Molde set up a crisis team to care for those affected.

Molde is located around 400 kilometers northwest of Oslo. The small town's airport is located directly on the waters of the Moldefjord.
