A small plane has crashed at a regional airport in the US state of North Carolina. There were several fatalities, the station WBTV quoted a local police chief from Iredell County. The station WSOCTV reported that the plane was a Cessna C550 business jet. The plane crashed on approach to Statesville Regional Airport. No further details were initially known.

Photos showed dark smoke above a runway. A witness told the radio station that the plane had approached very low. Statesville Regional Airport is about an hour's drive from the major city of Charlotte.
