The man, a 27-year-old Algerian, tried to flee but was grabbed by the dog's leg and arrested by the police. The incident occurred shortly before midnight last Friday, according to the Vaud cantonal police on Wednesday.
They had been informed that a person had broken into an apartment in Romainmôtier, stolen a handbag and fled. Police patrols quickly arrived on the scene and launched a manhunt, also using the dog squadron.
On the scene, the police were informed that two other burglaries had taken place in the same area. The dog handler then deployed his German shepherd. The dog soon found an object from the crime and began to follow a trail. The four-legged friend with a remarkable nose finally tracked down the suspected burglar in a bush in Moiry.
The suspect, who was grabbed by the leg, had to be taken to hospital for treatment, the police reported. He was then taken to the public prosecutor's office, which opened criminal proceedings.
