Patrols have been sent out to regulate traffic, said a spokeswoman. Major junctions were also affected, the police announced on Platform X. They could not say anything about the cause at present.
According to a fire department spokesperson, there were several deployments due to fire alarms. However, there are currently no fire incidents. However, the fire department itself is affected by the failure and still needs to get an overview.
There was also a temporary internet outage in many offices. The electricity network operators were initially unable to comment on the incident.
According to passengers, the light rail vehicles in Stuttgart were also affected by the power failure. An eyewitness told the German Press Agency (dpa) that she had been sitting in a light rail train that was unable to continue for several minutes. "There was an announcement that there was a power cut and that it would continue in a few minutes."
Around 600,000 people live in Stuttgart. It is the capital of the south-western German state of Baden-Württemberg and home to several large companies, including Mercedes-Benz.
