An armed man kept the police in Bern's city center on tenterhooks for hours on Thursday evening. The operation came to an end at around 9 pm.
The affected building on Kornhausplatz and the surrounding area "could be secured and searched", the cantonal police announced on the X short message service. No armed, masked men were found. The security measures and closures were then lifted.
The emergency services had cordoned off Kornhausplatz at around 6 p.m. for security reasons. The police were deployed in large numbers, as a reporter from the Keystone-SDA news agency reported.
