In recent years, Versace - named after the company founder Gianni Versace, who was murdered in 1997 - was under the umbrella of the US company Capri Holdings.

According to Prada, these shares have now been completely taken over. All approvals have been granted by the authorities responsible for controlling competition. The EU Commission in Brussels had already given its approval in September. In addition to the world-famous brand under its own name, Prada also owns other luxury manufacturers such as Miu Miu and Church's.

Purchase price of 1.25 billion euros

The purchase price for Versace's Italian rival had previously been quoted at 1.25 billion euros. The takeover was the subject of speculation for some time until Prada made the plans official in the spring. Recently, there were still some obstacles, including the punitive tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, which also affect Italy.

The purchase price for the company, which was founded in 1978, is lower than the sum of 1.5 billion euros that was originally mooted. Prada has been around since 1913 and Capri Holdings also has brands such as Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo in its portfolio.

Both Prada and Versace are among the biggest names in Italian fashion. Company founder Gianni Versace was murdered in the USA in 1997. In spring, his sister Donatella Versace (70) left her post as creative director after almost three decades. Since April 1, she has only been Chief Brand Ambassador. The luxury brand's new creative director is Dario Vitale, who previously worked for Miu Miu.
