Following the death of a Hamburg family in Istanbul, a preliminary report from Turkish forensic medicine continues to implicate the hotel, according to media reports. The report states that the death of the family of four was primarily caused by chemical poisoning in the hotel, state broadcaster TRT reported, citing the non-conclusive document. The probability of food poisoning is classified as low. The investigations have not yet been finalized.

After the mother and her two small children died last week in Istanbul, the father also died in an Istanbul hospital on Monday evening, according to the authorities. Investigators previously suspected food poisoning. However, they were also investigating indications of poisoning by chemicals that were reportedly used to control vermin in the family's hotel. Samples of the chemicals used are still to be tested, TRT said.

Four suspects in custody

Eleven suspects have since been arrested. According to the Anadolu news agency, an arrest warrant was issued for four of them on Monday evening. They were sellers of sweets, stuffed mussels and a dish made from veal intestines (kokorec) as well as a café owner. They are accused of involuntary manslaughter. The family had eaten with the suspects.
