The President of the Valais Bar Association, Gonzague Vouilloz, is following the Crans-Montana fire disaster affair closely, even though he is not involved in the proceedings. The former Vice President of the Valais Judicial Council takes stock.

At the beginning of the proceedings, the public prosecutor's office and cantonal police proposed a short list of lawyers to prevent the number from getting out of hand (currently 99). "It is very complicated for a lawyer to represent a large number of victims, as they have different interests," says Vouilloz.

Since then, information leaks have become more frequent: "Together with my colleagues from the lawyers' associations in Geneva and Vaud, we have intervened and reminded the lawyers of their duty of confidentiality. This applies all the more when dealing with the press."

The proceedings will cost millions. "That is the price of a functioning justice system, even in exceptional cases. However, part of the costs will be borne by the state of Valais and therefore by the taxpayers."
