In the entire secondary sector of the economy, i.e. in industry and construction, production (calendar-adjusted) increased by 1.9% between July and September 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Monday.
Industrial production alone increased by 2.4% compared to the previous year. There were double-digit growth rates in the manufacture of textiles and clothing, in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products and in the mining and quarrying sector. Production in the energy supply sector was significantly lower.
Construction output, on the other hand, weakened by 1.8%. The decline in civil engineering was even more pronounced than in building construction. There was a slight increase in the sub-sector of preparatory site work, construction installations and other finishing trades.
Lower turnover in industry and construction
Meanwhile, turnover in the secondary sector fell by 4.8% compared to the previous year. Turnover in industry alone fell by 5.7%, due in particular to the energy supply sector.
Turnover in the construction industry fell by a more moderate 1.3%. As with production, the civil engineering sub-sector performed less well than building construction. An increase in turnover was recorded in the area of preparatory site work, construction installations and other finishing trades.
