The Switzerland 2038 project, which also includes the Paralympic Games, envisages competitions in all parts of the country.
Ten directly involved cantons and 14 municipalities are behind the project, which will be based on "existing, first-class sports venues" wherever possible, it was announced on Monday in Bern at the media conference of the Switzerland 2038 association, which was founded in November 2023 by the national winter sports associations, Swiss Olympic and Swiss Paralympic.
Specifically, the project envisages Geneva, Lausanne, Crans-Montana VS, Engelberg OW, Zurich, Zug, Lugano, Lenzerheide GR and St. Moritz GR as the venues for around 120 competitions in more than a dozen sports. Lausanne is currently being considered as the venue for the opening ceremony and Bern for the closing ceremony.
