Psychiatrie Baselland (PBL) has opened a new ward in Liestal with 13 beds for adolescents in severe mental crises. This intensive therapy ward (ITS) treats young people aged 14 to 17 who are in acute danger to themselves or others, as the PBL announced on Friday.

CEO Barbara Schunk was quoted in the press release as saying that the service had been expanded due to the high demand. The PBL has a care mandate from the cantons of Baselland, Basel-Stadt and Solothurn for these seriously ill young people.

PBL previously ran the acute ward under the name B2J with six beds in Haus Biental on the campus. It has now been housed and expanded in the renovated Allmend building, according to the press release.
