The public prosecutor's office in Hamburg has carried out a raid against two suspected members of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). They are accused of propagandistic activities.

In the course of the searches of nine properties in Schleswig-Holstein, the 63-year-old main suspect was arrested on the basis of an existing arrest warrant, the investigators announced on Wednesday. The second suspect is a 64-year-old man whose home was searched.

The suspects, who are of Turkish origin, are accused of promoting the organizational, financial and propaganda interests of the PKK in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In particular, they are alleged to have participated in fundraising campaigns.

The 63-year-old main suspect is said to have collected 178,000 euros in donations last year and this year. He is also alleged to have taken part in cadre meetings of the PKK sector "North" in a key role since September. The second suspect allegedly co-organized propaganda events and received donations amounting to 3,000 euros last year.
