Animals Rare tree kangaroo baby delights visitors to English zoo
Curious and still a little unsure, the little animal looks out of its mother Kitawa's pouch with its googly eyes: a rare baby tree kangaroo is having its first experience of the outside world at a zoo in Chester, England. It does not yet have a name.

The animal was born a few months ago, but the little kangaroo has only just ventured out of its pouch, according to the zoo. The still nameless male currently weighs around 1.85 kilograms and was about the size of a small bean at birth.
According to the zoo, experts inserted tiny cameras into the mother's pouch in order to follow the cub's development. The images from the pouch provide valuable information about the rare animals. These could "support and hopefully accelerate our global efforts to conserve this species", said tree kangaroo expert Matthew Lloyd according to the press release.
Tree kangaroos are native to Papua New Guinea. The marsupial species is considered threatened with extinction. The baby of mom Kitawa and dad Kayjo was reportedly born as part of an international breeding program for the conservation of the species.
