Legendary American hot dog eater Joey Chestnut (41) has secured his 17th title in his comeback at the traditional New York hot dog eating contest on US Independence Day. In ten minutes, Chestnut devoured 70.5 buns and sausages in front of thousands of cheering spectators at the spectacle in front of the Coney Island amusement park by the sea in southern New York.

The record set by Chestnut 2021 at the spectacle is 76 hot dogs - just under eight per minute. The US American had won the competition in Coney Island every year since 2016 - last year, however, he was excluded from the eating contest due to a sponsorship dispute. In his absence, the US American Patrick Bertoletti had won, coming second this time with 46.5 hot dogs.

Defending champion Miki Sudo once again won the women's competition - even though she fell far short of her record of 51 hot dogs last year with 33. The US-American Sudo was the big favorite in the women's competition. She had won every competition since 2014 with the exception of 2021 - when she was pregnant and did not take part.
