Several debris flows buried the cantonal road between Visp and Stalden in the Upper Valais on Tuesday. The road remained closed to traffic until late afternoon.

Corresponding media reports were confirmed by the Valais cantonal police to the Keystone-SDA news agency. According to a spokesperson, no people were injured.

The police were unable to provide any information on possible material damage. However, pictures were circulated in online media showing how parked vehicles on a company site were partially buried by mud.

At 5 p.m., the old cantonal road was reopened to traffic - for vehicles weighing less than 3.5 tons. Train services were not affected and continued to run according to schedule.
