Robbie Williams breaks historic chart record

Williams has made history as the artist with the most number one albums in the UK. The chart publishers commented on the record as "He's the one", alluding to one of his biggest hits with the title "She's the one" from 1998.

In 1997, Williams, who had previously become world-famous with the boy band Take That, stormed to the top of the British album charts for the first time with his album "Life Thru a lens". With the album "Britpop", released just over a week ago, he has now achieved this success for the 16th time. Only one of his studio albums has failed to reach the top of the charts: "Reality killed the video star" reached number two in 2009.

According to the Official Charts Company, Williams said that "Britpop" was the album he had always wanted to make. The album marked his return to the sound of the 90s. "The fact that it's my 16th number 1 album means everything to me." The 51-year-old thanked his fans: "You have made my dreams come true." On his account on the X platform, Williams posted a photo of himself proudly and smilingly presenting his awards.

"The UK's most successful album artist - ever"

Martin Talbot, Managing Director of Official Charts, congratulated Williams. "Not even the confident 16-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent (his birthplace) would have thought this possible when he joined Take That in 1990, but now he's on top, the UK's most successful album artist - ever."

Behind Williams and The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Taylor Swift are the third most successful British number one albums with 14 chart-toppers each. They are followed by Elvis Presley (13).

"Britpop" was released just over a week ago. The album was originally due to be released in October, but Williams postponed the release until February to avoid a chart duel with Taylor Swift's "The Life Of A Showgirl", as he himself admitted. Now, surprisingly, he has released his new album three weeks earlier than announced.
