As announced, Romande Energie made significantly higher profits last year. However, the bottom-line result was even higher than expected on the market thanks to the Alpiq stake.

Revenue fell by 5 percent year-on-year to CHF 788.5 million in 2025, which was more than analysts had previously expected. In a press release on Tuesday, the energy company from western Switzerland explained the decline on the one hand with a lower energy share in the tariffs for 2025 for end customers with regulated tariffs and on the other hand with the volumes sold.

However, the operating result EBITDA increased by 23 percent to 152.5 million and EBIT rose massively to 38.6 million from 13.7 million. This was due to a higher margin in energy supply: Among other things, market conditions were more favorable in the second half of the year, which led to lower balancing power costs. Initial successes from the efficiency improvement measures introduced also contributed to the improvement in operating performance, according to Romande Energie.

Stable dividend

In the previous year, earnings had slumped sharply: Among other things, margins were depressed because surplus energy had to be resold, in some cases on extremely unfavorable terms.

In addition, the contribution of Alpiq and EOS NER SA to the result in the year under review was significantly higher at 40 million compared to 13 million in the previous year. Romande Energie holds just under 30 percent of EOS Holding, which in turn holds one third of Alpiq and 100 percent of EOS NER SA.

On balance, Romande Energie earned 80.1 million, three times as much as in 2024. Shareholders are to receive a stable dividend of CHF 1.44 per share.

Partnerships sought

In view of the geopolitical uncertainties and rapid changes in the regulatory framework, the company does not wish to issue a forecast for the current year 2026. The Group is focusing primarily on a medium to long-term roadmap, it said.

As part of Strategy 2030, new growth drivers such as digitalization, flexibility and storage as well as the expansion of district heating networks and the decarbonization of real estate are to be expanded. Adjusted EBITDA is set to increase by 50 percent to between CHF 170 million and CHF 190 million by 2030 compared to 2024 (CHF 121.2 million).

Investment expenditure is set to remain stable over the next five years and is expected to be between CHF 160 and 200 million. A substantial part of the investment plan has already been largely secured. Romande Energie also intends to exploit synergies and enter into industrial partnerships at regional and national level.
