In the legal dispute between pop star Dua Lipa (30) and the electronics company Samsung over the use of a photo of the singer, Samsung has rejected the accusations.

In a statement, the company explained: "The image of Dua Lipa was used in 2025 to display content from third-party partners available on Samsung TVs. Originally, the image was provided by a content partner for the free streaming service Samsung TV Plus. It was only used after the content partner had given explicit assurances that all necessary rights had been obtained - including use on sales packaging."

The British woman had previously sued Samsung for damages in the amount of 15 million dollars (just under 13 million euros). The legal dispute revolves around the use of a photo of the singer on the packaging of television sets. Dua Lipa is accusing the company of using a photo of her, which was taken backstage at a festival in 2024, for advertising purposes without her consent and without appropriate remuneration.

Samsung has "great respect for Dua Lipa" and the intellectual property of artists, the statement continued. The company is seeking an exchange with the singer and is "open to a constructive solution".

Accusations from Dua Lipa

According to the lawsuit filed in California, the pop star had already asked the company to remove the image last year, but Samsung reacted "dismissively and indifferently" to her warning and continued to use it. In the legal document, Dua Lipa quotes, among other things, statements from customers who wrote on the X platform that the photo of the singer on the box had tempted them to buy the TV.

The Grammy award winner, known for songs such as "Houdini" and "Dance The Night", claims that the company exploited her brand identity. In addition to the claim for damages of 15 million dollars, the singer is insisting that the use of the photo be stopped immediately.
