Under the leadership of President Karin Keller-Sutter, the Swiss government visited the city of St. Gallen on Friday. The program for the second day of the Federal Council's trip included a guided tour of the Abbey Library.
In the Abbey Library, one of the oldest libraries in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the members of the Federal Council and the Federal Chancellor were shown some of the oldest music manuscripts in the world dating back to the 10th century, as announced by the Federal Chancellery (FC) on Friday.
Following the visit to the Abbey Library, the Federal Government met with the authorities of the canton and city of St. Gallen, it added. They met with the population for an aperitif on the abbey square. The day before, the traditional aperitif, which is customary during Federal Council trips, took place in Rapperswil-Jona.
At the end of the program, according to the FCC, a walk and a small group meal are planned in St. Gallen. This year's trip was the fifth in total during the term of office of a President of the Swiss Confederation from the canton of St. Gallen. The federal government has been organizing trips for the Federal Council since 1957.
