There is a high avalanche danger on the northern Alpine ridge from Les Diableret to Titlis. The avalanche warning service forecast a danger level 4 for these areas on Wednesday.

According to the snow map of the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, up to one meter of fresh snow has fallen in these areas in the last 72 hours. According to the avalanche bulletin, the northerly wind has caused drift snow to accumulate and this, together with the fresh snow, is covering a weak layer of old snow.

As a result, even individual snow sports enthusiasts could easily trigger avalanches. Dangerous, large avalanches are also possible and spontaneous avalanches are always to be expected. Off-piste snow sports require great caution and restraint. However, the high avalanche risk at this time of year is not unusual, the SLF said in response to an inquiry from the Keystone-SDA news agency.

In the rest of the Alps, there is a considerable avalanche risk (level 3), especially at high altitudes. There, too, there has been between 30 and 60 centimetres of fresh snow since Sunday.
