Over the past 24 hours, several earthquakes with magnitudes of up to 4.7 have occurred on the northern half of the second largest Greek island of Euboea, which were also clearly felt in the capital Athens, around 130 kilometers away.

Greek seismologists are monitoring developments and warning of further tremors. More than 50 houses were damaged in the affected region, reported the newspaper "To Proto Thema", citing a local mayor.

Speaking to ERTNews, the president of the Greek Society for Earthquakes and Seismology, Efthymios Lekkas, said: "We will experience earthquakes of magnitude 4 to 5 in the coming days. We say this because we had a similar picture in previous seismic tremors in the same area."

In a Facebook post, seismologist Akis Tselentis from the University of Athens predicts a possible maximum magnitude of 5.5 and advises caution, especially for those living in very old houses. However, the experts have ruled out a mega-quake and the earthquake source has nothing to do with the magnitude 6.2 quake in Istanbul in April.
