Severe storms with tornadoes, flooding and squalls are threatening large parts of the USA this weekend. Meteorologists are expecting severe thunderstorms with heavy rain and large hail, which could spread further eastwards from the Midwest of the USA in the coming days.

According to US media reports, several tornadoes and severe thunderstorms have already been reported in the Midwest in particular on Friday, including in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Millions of people are under severe weather warnings. Flooding is also a concern: in parts of the Midwest, large amounts of rain fell within a short space of time, in some cases equivalent to a month's rainfall.
Some regions are experiencing unusually high temperatures for the time of year. However, according to meteorologists, a cold front is expected to cool things down next week.
