Ten people, including three children, were killed in an armed attack in co-host country Mexico just a few weeks before the kick-off of the World Cup. The incident took place in the small community of Tehuitzingo, according to the Attorney General's Office of the State of Puebla. The background to the attack is likely to be a family dispute.

According to media reports, the victims in Tehuitzingo include a 14-year-old, a 10-year-old and a baby. All of them were discovered in a house with shots to the head and tied up, reported the TV station N+. Most of them are said to have been members of a family.

The location is around 200 kilometers south of the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, where the opening match between Mexico and South Africa will take place on 11 June. The government has issued a security guarantee for the World Cup. Although many regions in Mexico are characterized by drug-related crime, the capital itself is not one of the most dangerous cities in the country.
