Packaging specialist SIG suffered a slump in profits in the third quarter of 2025 with lower sales. Including restructuring costs, the figures were even deep in the red.

In the months from July to September, SIG's turnover fell by 6.7 percent to 769 million euros, as the company announced on Tuesday. Adjusted for currency effects and the development of plastic prices, this resulted in a decline of 4.3 percent.

Customers had adjusted their inventories to the deteriorating consumer sentiment, the company explained the decline. According to the information provided, all regions were affected.

As a result, the adjusted EBITDA margin fell from 25.0 percent to 16.0 percent. And the adjusted profit slumped from 77.5 million euros to 16.9 million euros.

SIG recently announced a major restructuring program. Costs of 320 million were booked for this in the third quarter, with a further 40 million in the fourth quarter.

Including these costs, the company was in the red. Specifically, the Q3 net result amounted to -221.8 million.

With its half-year figures, SIG has more or less met analysts' expectations (AWP consensus) in terms of turnover, but missed them in terms of net profit.

Targets confirmed

SIG has confirmed its outlook. In the current year, the company expects only slightly negative to flat sales growth at constant exchange rates and plastic prices. The adjusted EBITDA margin is now expected to be in the range of 24.0 to 24.5 percent excluding one-off charges, including 21 percent. For this reason, and because the company wants to focus more strongly on capital discipline and debt reduction, the Board of Directors is still proposing a dividend waiver for 2025.

More important than today's figures is the strategy update on Thursday. There will then be updated medium-term targets. The company announced this on September 18 as part of a profit warning for the current year. The new Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ola Rollén, will then also present details of the transformation program he has initiated.
