At least six people died when a boat full of tourists capsized on a river in southern Chile, according to the authorities. The nationalities of the victims have not been released.

The boat with 32 passengers and two crew members set off from the city of Osorno on Sunday and sank in the Río Negro shortly before reaching its destination, the port of Bahía Mansa. Six fatalities have been confirmed, the Chilean navy told the AFP news agency on Monday.

The captain of the boat was reportedly arrested. According to the public prosecutor's office, the boat was overloaded and several passengers were not wearing life jackets.
