The Madonna di Campiglio ski resort is limiting the number of day skiers to 15,000 per day for the first time during the main holiday week from December 28 to January 5.
The aim of the measure is to avoid overcrowded slopes and to offer guests a better experience despite the high costs.
The limit only applies to day and hourly ski passes, while multi-day tickets and season passes are excluded.
The ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio in the Dolomites is temporarily limiting the number of skiers for the first time in response to overcrowded slopes.
The lift operators want to issue no more than 15,000 day ski passes during the main holiday week from December 28 to January 5, as Alice Ravanelli, spokesperson for the mountain railroads, explains. It is an experiment - and the ski resort is the first in Italy at least to try out such a limit.
The rule only applies to day and hourly ski passes, but not to holders of season passes and ski passes for two days or more. Those who want to be on the safe side can also buy the day ski pass in advance. There is also a flexible lift pass which - when activated - is automatically charged to the credit card. This is also not affected.
More space on the slopes
"We wanted to guarantee more space on the slopes," said Ravanelli. Guests pay for accommodation and ski passes. "People spend so much money. We want there to be a perfect service in return." There have been many calls from guests about the new regulations - most of them are very satisfied.
If the measure proves successful, they want to repeat it at Carnival. Then another rush of skiers is expected.
The huge ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio is located in a spectacular landscape with a view of the Brenta mountain massif. It offers 155 kilometers of slopes and almost 60 cable cars and lifts - provided all the pistes are open. There is still little snow, but almost all the slopes are already open. They are now hoping for fresh snow. With the drop in temperatures, artificial snow can also be produced.
