His companion immediately raised the alarm, as reported by the Valais cantonal police on Friday. Two mountain guides who were staying at the Valsorey hut rushed to the scene of the accident. With the help of their avalanche transceivers, they were able to locate and rescue the victim.
An Air-Glaciers team and avalanche dog handlers were called out by the Valais cantonal rescue organization. Upon their arrival, the rescue workers were only able to determine that the ski tourer had died.
The Valais public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
