Mountain accident Ski tourer falls to his death in Valais

A 53-year-old ski tourer fell to his death on Mont Dolent in Orsières VS on Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened on the ascent at an altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level. The victim was traveling with another alpinist.

The cause of the accident was still unclear on Thursday and an investigation was underway, according to the cantonal police. The two ski tourers were shortly before the summit.

The rescue services of the cantonal Valais rescue organization deployed two Air-Glaciers helicopters. They were only able to determine that the Swiss man had died.
