The accident happened in the Samnaun/Ischgl GR ski area on a blue slope. A child accompanied by an adult was skiing downhill at the same time as the skier from Germany, as the police wrote in a statement on Wednesday. The child and the man approached each other, causing the man to fall.
The man sustained serious injuries in the fall. Despite immediate medical intervention by an ambulance service and the doctors present, he died at the scene of the accident, the police added.
Together with the public prosecutor's office, the alpine police of the Graubünden cantonal police are now investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
