Numerous sled dog fans from various European countries have come together in the Bavarian-Austrian border region for an international race. As the organizers reported, more than 100 teams with more than 500 dogs were announced. The race route ran from Bad Hindelang in the Allgäu region to the neighboring Austrian municipality of Schattwald and back.

The various routes were between six and 18 kilometers long. The Baden-Würtemberg Sled Dog Sports Club, which organized the two-day race, explained that the routes around Bad Hindelang were particularly technically demanding. It is "one of the most difficult races on the scene, with spectacular descents".

The mushers, the leaders of the dog sled teams, competed against each other in different classes. The categories differed, among other things, in terms of how many dogs run in front of the sleds.

Not only teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland were at the start, but also a number of participants from the Czech Republic, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Great Britain and France came with huskies and other dog breeds. Next year, the long-distance championship is planned to be held on the cross-border route.
