The smoke rose from a non-public mezzanine floor at Zurich main station: A power cable in a shaft had caught fire, as reported by Schutz & Rettung Zürich (SRZ) on request. The emergency services extinguished the fire. As electricity was involved, they used carbon dioxide as an extinguishing agent.
Due to the smoke and the CO2 used, the main hall at the rear of the main station was closed as a precautionary measure. According to the SRZ, there was no danger.
Rail operations were not affected, according to SBB. The above-ground and underground tracks were always accessible. Only some platform indicators did not work.
