Around 1000 people demonstrated in front of the steelworks in Gerlafingen SO on Saturday to demand the preservation of the plant. They demanded that politicians take immediate action to save Stahl Gerlafingen and that the company refrain from making redundancies.

The solidarity rally was called by the trade unions Unia, Syna, the Kaufmännische Verband Schweiz and Angestellte Schweiz. Several speakers called for the steelworks to be preserved. Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin must take action, said Pirmin Bischof, member of the Swiss Parliament, and Franziska Roth, member of the SP Council of States from the canton of Solothurn, in their statements.
