The aim of the order is to modernize Cologne's local transport system with a tailor-made fleet of light rail vehicles, according to a press release issued on Monday. It is estimated to be worth just under 700 million euros.
This also includes 34 intermediate modules, which will allow the trains to be extended to around 70 meters. The first ten trains and five connecting modules are to be delivered in 2029. Series delivery is planned from mid-2030 to the end of 2032.
As part of a long-term partnership, the contract also includes the supply of spare parts as well as service and support services such as maintenance work.
