Stadler Rail is expanding its plant in the USA. Around 200 new jobs will be created in Salt Lake City, increasing the workforce to around 800 employees, said Group spokesman Marc Meschenmoser in an interview with the news agency AWP on Wednesday.
Demand in the USA is still increasing, especially for city networks and metros. "We have won several tenders," said the spokesman.
As part of Switzerland's customs deal with the US government, the train manufacturer from eastern Switzerland has also pledged to invest in the USA. In future, the aluminum car bodies for the USA will be welded in Salt Lake City, said the spokesman. Previously, the welding work took place in Hungary. The aluminum parts come from the Valais-based company Constellium.
