These would drive the company's growth and create more than 5,000 jobs in Michigan and other Midwestern states, Filosa explained on Tuesday.
Among other things, the investments will be used to reopen a plant in Belvidere, Illinois, which was shut down in 2023. According to Stellantis, it will invest 600 million dollars in this project. Production of the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Compass models is scheduled to start in 2027. In addition, further car models are to be manufactured at Stellantis plants in the US states of Ohio, Michigan and Indiana, including many combustion models.
Under former US President Joe Biden, car manufacturers in the US were encouraged by emissions regulations to invest in electric car models. Under US President Donald Trump, however, the penalties for ignoring emissions rules have been lifted, allowing car manufacturers to produce more polluting car models in the US again.
