According to a study commissioned by the hospital association H+, the Swiss hospital landscape is not sustainable. There is therefore an urgent need for action. Hospitals and politicians are facing major challenges.

According to the PwC study presented by H+ on Thursday, the demand for healthcare services is increasing, the shortage of specialists is becoming ever more serious and tariffs are not covering costs. Without fundamental changes, there is a risk of supply bottlenecks, longer waiting times, poorer quality and losses of up to 1.1 billion Swiss francs by 2045.

However, the study shows a way out of the misery: Better coordination among hospitals and adjustments to services, strengthening outpatient care and promoting digitalization.

According to H+, this requires a clear financial responsibility on the part of parliament. In addition, "modern care planning" is needed to ensure quality and security of care.
