A sailing boat sank during a regatta on Lake Zug near Oberwil ZG on Saturday afternoon. Another boat rescued a 40-year-old and a 70-year-old man. A 56-year-old man was initially reported missing in the late afternoon, according to the cantonal police.
The boat and the man have since been located at a depth of around 80 meters. The specialists from the Zurich cantonal police who were called in were then able to use a diving robot to verify that it was the sailing boat and a male person they were looking for, and the two people rescued escaped with slight hypothermia but without injury.
Preparations are currently underway to salvage the man and the sunken ship. Due to the depth of the lake at the scene of the accident and the situation found on the lake bed, the rescue is proving to be a challenging task. The Zug police are in contact with various specialists.
