The documents submitted by the operator for the periodic safety review (PSR) at the end of 2022 show that the Leibstadt nuclear power plant is in a good safety condition and meets the requirements for safe long-term operation. This was stated by the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (Ensi) in its statement published on Friday.
Ensi considers the retrofits made and planned for long-term operation to be "appropriate and sensible overall". The nuclear power plant went into long-term operation at the end of 2024 after 40 years.
Ensi is making demands to further increase the safety level of the plant. These are aimed at carrying out a systematic review of the design of important safety-related components, it said.
