Overall, 62% of all respondents stated that they had already shopped on platforms such as Temu or Aliexpress in China, according to the credit card provider Visa. Social media are increasingly serving as a source of inspiration. According to the survey, 41% of Swiss consumers became aware of products there that they later bought.

When transferring money between friends and family, digital payment options are gaining ground: According to the survey, more than half (53 percent) regularly use mobile app to mobile app payments.

However, many countries have their own apps for this purpose; Twint is widely used in Switzerland. Visa says it is working with its banking partners on international solutions. "Imagine being able to send money to your family in Australia via app just as easily as to your friend in the next village," it said. The company did not provide any further details.

According to the Visa Payment Monitor, digital payments have recently continued to gain in importance. 57 percent of respondents preferred the smartphone to their wallet. And three out of four Swiss have stored their card data digitally.

The survey was conducted on behalf of Visa by the market research institute Forsa in October 2024. 1008 people aged 18 and over were surveyed online, including 557 18 to 35-year-olds.
