At 11.30 p.m. on Sunday night, a man in a car with more than 500 horsepower drove off Engstringerstrasse into Grabenstrasse, the Zurich cantonal police reported on Sunday. After a right-hand bend, he left the road, knocked over a street light and finally drove head-on into the front of a house.

The driver of the car, also aged 39, and an unknown woman who was in the car fled after the collision, the police wrote. The two left the seriously injured passenger at the scene of the accident without giving him any help.

Shortly before midday, the driver handed himself in to the police. Like the deceased, he is a citizen of North Macedonia. A search for his passenger was still underway on Sunday.

Based on the evidence, the police believe that the man was driving at a significantly higher speed through the 30 km/h zone of the neighborhood street. They began an investigation into the accident.
