Zurich Swimmer drowns in the Limmat

A 31-year-old man drowned in the Limmat between Zurich and Fahrweid on Thursday evening. According to the police, the cause of the accident is being investigated.

At around 7:20 p.m., an emergency call was received that a man had drifted off while swimming in the Limmat, according to the Zurich cantonal police. A search operation was then carried out on water, land and from the air. After around an hour, the police operations center received a report that a man was stuck on a jetty in Fahrweid. The 31-year-old could only be rescued dead.

In addition to the cantonal police, the city police and Dietikon fire department, the Zurich professional fire department, Zurich Protection and Rescue, the Limmattal Hospital rescue service and the Alpine Air Ambulance were also deployed, according to the press release.
