The Swiss Air Force will be taking off and landing with F/A-18 fighter jets at Bern-Belp Airport for three days. From March 31 to April 2, the army will be operating military flight services from a civilian base there.

Take-offs and landings will take place during the day and in the evening until 10 p.m. at the latest, as the Swiss Air Force announced on Tuesday. An increased volume of flights is therefore to be expected around Bern Airport.

The exercise is necessary in order to train decentralization as a passive air defence measure by moving troops and material at short notice, the statement continued. Today, all air force resources are concentrated at the military airfields of Payerne VD, Meiringen BE and Emmen LU, which makes them vulnerable to enemy weapons systems. The last such exercise took place on the A1 highway in Payerne on June 5, 2024.
