The TCS has received the first camping reservations earlier than usual. On Thursday, most Swiss campsites welcomed their guests for the first time this season.
The mild spring temperatures at the beginning of March were responsible for the early booking inquiries, announced the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) at the start of the camping season on Thursday.
The number of bookings last month was 14 percent higher than in the previous year, according to the TCS. Over the last five to six years, the demand for various "forms of accommodation" has grown. Camping has also become more popular.
This is also reflected in the figures: last year, the TCS recorded 942,000 overnight stays, the third best seasonal result ever.
The TCS intends to continue investing in campsites in the future: This year, several new construction and renovation projects are being carried out on Lake Neuchâtel, in Flims GR and in Verzasca Valley TI.
