Swiss construction companies generated more turnover in the third quarter than in the same period last year. The outlook for the coming quarters also remains positive thanks to a higher order intake.

From July to September, turnover rose to 6.7 billion Swiss francs, as reported by the Swiss Association of Master Builders (SBV) on Wednesday. This corresponds to an increase of 4.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
Strong residential construction
The increase is primarily due to the residential construction sector, where sales have risen by a strong 9 percent to 3.4 billion Swiss francs since the middle of the year. The association cites the higher rents on offer and the recent interest rate cuts as the reasons for this. A total of 44,000 new apartments are expected to be built this year.
There was also a trend reversal in civil engineering in the third quarter. After two quarters of decline, turnover rose again by 3.8% to CHF 3.3 billion.
Confident outlook
The association is confident about the coming months: at the end of September, incoming orders had risen by 3.3% to CHF 17.9 billion. The construction index, which forecasts seasonally adjusted turnover, also exceeded the 100-point mark in the final quarter of 2025 for the first time in two years.
Despite economic uncertainties, the SBC is also forecasting an increase in turnover of 1.9% for the coming year. The upturn in residential construction is likely to continue, while civil engineering could also provide positive impetus. However, high construction costs and declining applications are likely to slow down the upturn over the course of the year.
