It increased by 1.5% compared to the same period last year, according to the Postfinance consumption indicator published on Tuesday. There had already been significant increases in January (+1.2%) and February (+1.1%).
According to the press release, consumer concerns have increased significantly. At the same time, expectations regarding Switzerland's future economic development have clouded over due to the trade tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump. However, actual spending behavior has so far been unaffected by this.
Every month, Postfinance anonymously evaluates the payment transactions of its 2.4 million customers. The consumption indicator calculated from this shows consumer spending adjusted for the effects of sales days and public holidays in a year-on-year comparison or on a seasonally adjusted basis compared to the previous month.
Restaurant visits very popular
According to the indicator, leisure spending in particular has remained at a high level recently. The propensity to spend on restaurant visits was particularly high. Travel activity also remains high.
Products and treatments from the "Beauty & Wellness" sector, on the other hand, were slightly less in demand in March than in previous months, according to the data.
